Holocaust Rails Close to Reopening After Historic June Flooding

The Holocaust Exhibit experienced significant flooding, with 30-36 inches of standing water for about 48 hours due to the Big Sioux River flooding on June 23-24. Fortunately, the efforts of volunteers ensured that none of the exhibit cases were submerged, as they moved them and their contents to a higher and safer location. The contents of the exhibit were subsequently removed for cleaning and restoration. In the aftermath, repairs and replacements were made to the sheetrock, electrical systems, electronics, alcoves, and controls. The exhibit is expected to reopen and host student field trips in March, April, and May, weather permitting. The Holocaust Rails docents, who greeted over 50,000 visitors in the 13 months it was previously open, are eagerly anticipating the exhibit’s reopening.
